How To Make Coupons For Business That Work

Often times, businesses take coupons for granted. Because coupons can often seem like something that’s non-essential or overly simple, business fail to put a lot of thought into them. But coupons are an extension of the brand and a way to market directly to customers. At Mailerhouse, we help print and distribute lots of coupons for lots of businesses and we’ve seen some pretty great examples of how it is done.

So what are some things you should make sure of?

Make sure that you get your coupons to your customers slightly ahead of the coupon’s activation date. If you are having a big sale whereas coupons can be used from October 1st to the 15th, you don’t want the coupons hitting mailboxes on the 10th. That’s just a downer to most customers. You also don’t want the coupons coming a month beforehand because people will either forget or lose the coupons. Have them arrive a day or two before the offer begins.

Make sure the coupons are actually valuable to the customer. Many stores have attempted to use coupons as bait to get more customers in their stores or on their websites, but the coupons really can’t be used for much. This will cause customers to despise your business. You want to make sure the coupons are actually something that can be used on a good amount of your products, or a really good product. You don’t want to create hostility amongst your customer base.

Make sure the coupon has value. You don’t want to send out coupons that give customers a nickel off of your product or services. That’s not worth any customer’s time. The coupons should be legit and possess actual value.

Make sure you send out coupons when it matters. Inundating customers with coupons incessantly might cause your coupons to get overlooked. People may get too used to seeing them and just start tossing them in the trash. If Mailerhouse printed your coupons, the last place we want to see them end up is in a trash can!

Make sure your coupons have a fresh look. If your coupons look like everyone else’s coupons, your special offer might not look so special to anyone. You want your design to stand out so that people take notice.

Lastly, just make sure you put a little thought into the process. Coupons are a really lucrative marketing play and can really help stimulate business. Reach out to Mailerhouse today, we can give you even more advice and help you get started.
